What does it mean that you are Client-centered strength-based therapists?
Many therapists approach treatment from a deficit or pathology oriented perspective, which stems from a belief that you are somehow broken and in need of fixing. As strength-based therapists, we believe that all of our clients are brimming with resiliencies, skills, and strengths. Our job is to provide tools and support to help you build on your strengths to overcome the challenges and problems you face.
Will you tell me what to do?
Through collaborating with your therapist you will begin to see what directions and choices make the most sense for you. Will we give you ideas to think about?, definitely - Yes. We believe changes are more likely to last if you decide to make them for yourself. As you meet for weekly sessions with your therapist, they may make observations about things that don’t seem to be working well, or suggest things that might help you meet your goals. However, your therapist will rarely give direct advice, and will never tell you whether you should leave a relationship or a job. While your therapist can help you to gain insight about your feelings and understand the pros and cons of a situation, only you can make those kinds of decisions.
Will you think I’m weird?
Definitely NO - We have worked with a lot of different kinds of people, and open-mindedness is one of our core values. It’s more about finding a way to be true to yourself. If your therapist discovers – either in the initial phone call or during the time they’re working with you – that they’re not able to help you with your needs, we’ll refer you to a professional who might be better able to help.
Where is your office located?
We are in Downtown Los Angeles in the US Bank Building, across from the main library. Close to the Pershing Square Metro stop. Your therapist will provide you with more information about our office location and parking suggestions prior to your first session. Reasonable parking is a few blocks away from the office.
How often are sessions? With new clients, we always schedule weekly sessions. With less frequency it’s difficulty to get any momentum going in your treatment. You and your therapist may decide at some point that it would be better for you to come to therapy less often.
How do I pay for my sessions? All payments are due at the time of service, and we accept cash, checks, Venmo and credit cards. We have appointment days and times available now.
Do you take insurance?
Yes. Additionally, if you have a Health Savings Account (HSA) or “flex account” through your employer, you may be able to use funds from that account.
How can I make an appointment?
Prior to your first session, we offer a free phone consultation. We always speak to new clients on the phone for 10-15 minutes to make sure we are a good fit. You can schedule this phone consultation by using any of the contact forms on this site.
